No Tabs? Are you kidding me?

Miguel Reyes mireyes1 posted this 05 October 2015

I’ve read many posts and there seems to be a lot of people complaining about no Tabs with the DVD and Online lessons. The rational provided by Lick Library for No Tabs seems to be that there are copywrite and licensing issues that prohibit Lick Library from including tabs with their DVDs and Online Lessons.

Even though I’m not happy that the "Learn to Play" and "Jam With" DVD Lessons don’t come with Tab… I can’t deny the fact that Lick Library does provide a high quality instructional product.

However, I’m not buying any more products from Lick Library because of the "NO TABS" issue. Nevertheless, I still keep coming back to check out what new products do have Tabs. So far there are at least 5 products I would love to buy from Lick Library, but won’t buy because they don’t have Tabs: They are… • Danny Gill’s Blue’s Licks • Danny Gill’s Blues Guitar • Steve Trovato’s Quick Licks (Chuck Berry Key of A) • Danny Gill’s Quick Licks (Jimi Hendrix Key of B) • Danny Gill’s Quick Licks (Gary Moore Key of E)

I’m just curious… the 5 DVD Lessons above don’t come with Tab because Danny Gill and Steve Trovato won’t allow Lick Library to include Tabs with their DVD lessons?

I don’t think there should be any copywrite and/or licensing issues for Danny Gill’s lessons because he wrote the Blues Licks and he is the owner of them. I don’t think there should be any copywrite and/or licensing issues for the Quick Licks videos because they are not Note-for-Note transcriptions from copywritted material. They are “in the style of” lessons that shouldn't infringe upon any copywrite and/or licensing issues.

Are there any plans to include tab for the 5 lessons above?

As stated earlier Lick Library does provide a high quality product.

By the way… I love Lick Library and I hate Lick Library.

I love Lick Library because • The videos and instructors are clear and straight to the point • The Jam Tracks are high quality stuff • The DVD lessons and Online Lessons appear to be the fastest way to learn a lot of songs in a short amount of time

I hate Lick Library because • There is no tab

I purchased the 2 Jam With Hendrix DVDs and a couple of Online Hendrix Lessons because the description said “The hugely popular Jam with Book and CD Series has now been updated to a 2 DVD+CD format” with Note-for-Note transcriptions. I was shocked to find out that no tab is available and the Jam with Hendrix Books are no longer available from Lick Library. It’s hard to sit at my computer and transcribe a song by hand. It’s not an effective way to quickly learn new songs. I wanted to get a refund, but couldn’t. Oh well… I learned a valuable lesson. That’s why I’m waiting for the tab. But I don’t want to wait any longer for the 5 lessons above.

Are there any plans in the near future to include tab with the 5 lessons above?

Please advise.

The video lessons are far better than having tab, you could do your own tab like taking notes in a class if it is that important to you, this subject has been re hashed sooooo many times over the years

cant you just use your memory banks and learn the song you want then play it each day till its becomes second nature.the video lessons are so detailed you dont really need tabs.

This would work.... only I've been working for licklibrary as our in house transcriber for 4 years now and in that time we've not put out a non copyright product without tab ;)

We're working on adding them to older products, I've done a bunch of Andy James stuff, we're just working out the best way to deliver them.

It doesn't bother me that there aren't TABs in the lessons where TABs weren't available but it is bothering me that the TABs that should be available to me as an Ultimate Member aren't online. I brought this to the attention of customer service and the issue was resolved on most of them but a few still don't have TAB. I hate being that one guy who keeps complaining but lessons like the Tasty Licks lesson with Stuart Bull would be much more easily learned with the TAB that should accompany it. I know the TAB is supposed to be offered and that it is just an online problem. Any chance of getting this fixed soon?

Hi Joe,

We had a recent issue with the 'TAB' tab temporarily not appearing for a few of the Ultimate DVDs, but the majority of these were fixed recently. There is an outstanding issue with 3 of these titles which is being looked into by our developer, but as a temporary workaround we have found that if you cannot see the 'TAB' tab appear for a given title when navigating to the DVD via the My LickLibrary page, if you instead go to the Store, click on Latest DVDs and locate the DVD from there, when you open the product page for that title and then click the 'Watch Now' option, then you should see the 'TAB' tab.

Not an ideal scenario granted, but at least it should allow you to access the tab whilst our developer looks into this issue for us.

I want to thank everyone for their valuable feedback. I sincerely appreciate it.

I agree with Music Man when he says I could do my own tab like taking notes in class. However, my objective is to learn as many songs as quickly as possible in an efficient and effective way. That’s why I purchased the Lick Library products because they appeared to be in alignment with my goals. I’m too old to be spending numerous hours in front of the computer transcribing my own tab. I realize it is achievable. However, transcribing my own tab doesn’t achieve my objective of learning stuff quickly, efficiently, and effectively. I’m afraid I’ll die before learning all the songs I want to learn from Lick Library.

Chromaticlord writes… can’t I just use my memory banks and learn the songs I want to play. Yes... It is true I could just use my memory banks, but informaiton leaks after a while. I learn stuff and move on to new stuff. When I return to older material I previously learned I realize that I must review the material again. I guess I’m not that smart to keep all the notes in my head. That’s why I’d like to have Tab for when I come back and have to re-learn stuff. I realize that if I wrote my own tab I’d have a written record, but once again… not the most efficient and effective way to learn new material for me.

Levi writes… we’ve not put out a non copyrighted product without tab and we’re working on adding them to older products. That’s great news.

Levi... any idea when you’ll get around to tabbing out: • Danny Gill’s Blues Licks • Danny Gill’s Blues Guitar • Danny Gill’s Quick Licks (Jimi Hendrix Key of B) • Danny Gill’s Quick Licks (Gary Moore Key of E)

Levi… I noticed you have an Easy Blues Fusion Guitar DVD with Tab. I’ll buy this one from Lick Library if you tell me when you’ll get around to transcribing the 4 DVDs above. The 4 DVDs above are very important to me and I can’t wait to start working on them. Thanks.

I'm not going to lie - it won't be any time soon. I mean, certainly not something I'd hold out for before you start with the DVDs. It takes an age for anything to happen at LL as there's a chain of command. I've got to send the message up, it will be ignored for 6 months, then I'll hear back and get told to do it, then when it's done it will take another 6 months to implement the files etc :(

Been shooting back and forward emails today about updated products with tabs.

once it starts though - it will be quick.

having said that, both the Danny Gill Absolute beginners DVDs do have tab. Pop them in a computer and you'll find a PDF ;)

Levi... thank you for your quick response and brutal honesty. A deal is a deal. I will order your Easy Blues Fusion DVD. Hopefully, the Quick Licks Jimi Hendrix DVD will come with tab soon. Maybe within the next year?

One last question.... how will I know when the Jimi Hendrix Quick Licks will come with tab? I was told by LL that the only way to know for sure that a product has Tab is to look at the full DVD details and product information. When I looked at Danny Gill’s Absolute Beginners Blues Licks and Blues Guitar Lessons for Aboluste Begginers DVDs I don’t see anything stating that Tab is available. I’m assuming the same will be true when (and if) the Tab for Jimi Hendrix Quick Licks becomes available. Please advise.

My pleasure!

As for knowing when tabs come - the plan is to re-release products as like a version 2.0 if you like. So any time we do that there will be an email. If you see an email for a product you own, send us a mail and we'll get you your new shiny tab!

Levi... Please confirm that Danny Gill's Absolute Beginners Blues Licks and Danny Gill's Absolute Beginners Blues Guitar Lessons for Beginners have Tab.

According to your post above, "both the Danny Gill Absolute beginners DVDs do have tab. Pop them in a computer and you'll find a PDF ;)"

However, according to Julie Burns from LL these do not come with Tab.

I'm getting ready to make my purchases and I want to be absolutely sure that both Danny Gill Absolute beginners DVDs do have tab.

Please confirm.

Thanks.

they have absolutely been done, yes

I was sure they were on the disc - if they're not then I did them for an eBook release and will have the tabs somewhere in the office - if they're not on the disc I will get them for you - If I've lost them, I will do them again for you

how's that for service? :)
